Schindler, Heiner

Heiner Schindler, long-standing principal clarinettist with the Berlin Staatskapelle, has been successfully teaching for many years as a mentor at the Orchestral Academy of the Berlin Staatskapelle and at Rostock University of Music and Drama, which appointed him Professor of Wind Chamber Music/Clarinet in 2010.
He studied with Prof. Ewald Koch at the University of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin, and won prizes at international music competitions at an early stage in his career. In 1986, he won second prize at the international clarinet competition Prague Spring.

The Berlin Staatskapelle engaged him as principal clarinettist while he was still a student.
In this position, he has performed under the direction of Daniel Barenboim in all of the world’s most important music centres. He has performed as a soloist with the Staatskapelle under Fabio Luisi as well as with many other German orchestras. He is a founding member of the Berlin Staatskapelle’s wind quintet and is much in demand as a chamber musician.
