Witt, Gregor

Gregor Witt is the principal oboist with the Berlin Staatskapelle directed by Daniel Barenboim, and also performs as a soloist in Germany and abroad. He is much in demand as a chamber musician and is a member of numerous chamber music ensembles including the Berlin Staatskapelle’s wind quintet and the Berlin Wind Soloists. Gregor Witt has been teaching at Rostock University of Music and Drama since 2004; the university also appointed him as an honorary professor. He also teaches at the Academia de Estudios Orchestales in Seville and the Orchestral Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin. Many of his students are principal oboists with major orchestras and have won prizes and international competitions such as the ARD Music Competition in 2008 and 2011 and the Markneukirchen international music competition in 2010. He is a co-founder and conductor of the Mecklenburg Wind Academy at the hmt.

Gregor Witt studied the oboe with Prof. Gerd Albrecht Kleinfeld at the University of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin
